Advice and tips for organizing care-free pool parties
Tip #1: Location love attention and personal.
Check if the venue is suitable for hosting a party / pool party. If the pool is far from the house and with a somewhat larger group you can hardly get to it decently, you should wonder if the location is suitable. Love, like when cooking, is along with attention, is the most important ingredient. If you organize a party with love and attention, the rest will come naturally. Finally, let it be a personal party, your party and then all the quests will soon feel like VIP’s.
Tip #2: Start thinking and organizing ahead of time.
After all, if you start on time, the opportunities to figure things out are much greater. Ibiza may be an island but it is certainly not the other side of the world. If there is enough time, special requests or decorative items can be transported. It may take some arranging and time, but if you start early enough, it can be done.
Tip 3: Prevent creating a disturbance.
Prevention is better than cure. You should realize that villas for rent and regular homes on the island are intermingled. Imagine for a moment that at home the house next door to you has different occupants every week and each occupant comes up with some reason for a fun garden party. Then you understand that some “regular” residents in the “neighbourhood” or surrounding area ask the uathorities for rules. Rules that the police, in turn, should enforce.
Tip 4: Less is more.
If you want to throw a really big party, be sure to talk to the various catering establishments on the island. There are only a handful of venues, which are all privately owned, where you could throw an extremely large party without disturbance. By less is more, we mean that each house has a maximum in terms of the number of people allowed and the amount of parking available.
Tip 5: Stop in time.
The law says that after 24 hours there should be no noise (disturbance). In practice, this means that the police will come to enforce this from 11 p.m./11:30 p.m. onwards if required. So plan your party so you don’t get a visit from the police.
Tip #6: Start on time.
Since the end time is a given and a party also does need time to get going, the solution is as simple as 1+1=2
Tip #7: A good neightbour.
It is very sympathetic for you to go in person, a day in advance, and tell any neighbours that there is a party the following day. Let then know why you are having the party and that you will do everything you can to minimize the inconvenience. That you promise that the music will be lowered from 11 p.m. and that the party will be finished 11:30 p.m. Give them a business card with phone number and ask them to call you if they are unhappy about anything (instead of the police) Possibly even give them a good bottle of wine.
Tip 8: Drugs.
We have no choice but to mention this for a moment. To many, Ibiza has the association of a pill or something else. Whichever way you look at it there is a chance that there will be people attending your party who wish to use some. By taking the above tips to heart, starting with tip 1 love and attention, you may ask your guests to come drug free. Delicious appetizers, a good glass of wine, prepared with love, will taste heavenly and it would be a shame to miss the experience because drugs ruined their sense of taste.
Tip 9: Transportation, booze and everything from tip 8 do not go together with transportation.
Help your guests arrange things for transportation in advance. Cabs can be quite crowded and some location are almost impossible to find. But if you communicate the location clearly in time, via whatsapp or email, then people can make suitable arrangements.
Tip 10: Comfort.
Whatever the setting, a pool party, involves a pool and people still like to dive, jump or just walk in it. Pools in Ibiza are almost never artificially heated or they have the heating just turned off due to high energy prices. This means that depending on the weather and season, the temperature can vary between cool and comfortable. In some cases, in consultation with the landlord and for a fee, you may be able to do something about this. Furthermore, wet people need towels and usually there are not enough of them in the house. Therefore, ask your guests to bring a towel.
